the brief
How can Figma enable short bursts of creative work?
7 days. 4 designers. 1 challenge: designing a Figma experience that empowers creators to do meaningful work in short, spontaneous bursts.
context
Designers who care about their craft are constantly thinking about their projects...
Whether waiting in line, commuting, or between meetings, there are countless micro-moments in a day when inspiration strikes or a small task could move a project forward.
insights
A well-documented idea keeps its context, its richness, and its potential to grow.
a good idea is…
Anchored to where and how it was born.
When that context is lost, ideas lose their clarity and emotional weight.
Captured in full.
When inspiration strikes, our minds move faster than our tools. Pencils, keyboards, and apps can’t keep up, forcing us to flatten our complex, layered thoughts into shorthand.
Strong enough to build from.
Without that context and depth, ideas are hard to re-enter or build upon later.
the problem
Today’s design tools are not built for these moments.
Ideas get scattered across notes apps, Slack messages, screenshots, or just stay in our heads because capturing or iterating on them requires sitting down at a computer.
solution
Introducing live comments to Figma.
With live comments, capture visual annotations + voice notes to create really powerful, quick, high-fidelity ideas that are easy to understand and reference later.
Give rich feedback on-the-go
Live comments pair sketch annotations with live voice recordings to create live comments that are convenient to make and easy to understand. This serves as an asynchronour way to share ideas and feedback with your team without losing momentum or context.
Revisit ideas later and build on them.
Review live comments on desktop at a glance and replay the moment for full context.

the outcome
We got feedback on our project from leading industry designers
Aside from the valuable feedback, we also won our competition (on 0 hours of sleep and a bunch of stomach issues - haha).
